Pool Service is Back for 2026
After stepping away from pool service to focus on sales, I’ve had too many people asking. So we’re doing it again — openings, closings, repairs, and service visits for Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.
I’m Mike Kern, a Certified Pool Operator with 30+ years in the pool industry. No call centers, no commissioned salespeople — just me, my truck, and three decades of experience taking care of pools.
Service Area
I service all of Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire. Pricing may vary based on distance from Winchendon, MA (my home base), but if you’ve got a pool in the Bay State or just over the border, I can help.
Services Offered
Pool Openings
Here’s my advice after 30 years of opening pools in New England: open early. Like, early April if you can. I know it sounds crazy — “But Mike, it’s still cold!” — doesn’t matter. You’re not swimming yet anyway. But the water’s been warming up since March, and algae doesn’t wait for your schedule. Wait until Memorial Day weekend and you’ll be fighting pea soup instead of swimming.
| Service | Starting At |
|---|---|
| Above Ground Pool Opening | $175 |
| Inground Pool Opening | $275 |
| Side Vac / Pump to Waste (add-on) | $175 |
Note: Larger pools, pools with heavy debris, and longer distances may cost more. If your pool wasn’t opened last season, expect the side vac to be necessary.

Pool Closings
A proper closing protects your investment through New England’s brutal winters. I’ll winterize the plumbing, install your cover, and make sure everything’s buttoned up right.
| Service | Starting At |
|---|---|
| Above Ground Pool Closing | $175 |
| Inground Pool Closing | $275 |
| Filter Wash (add-on) | $75 |
Note: Water should be lowered before I arrive. Filter wash is a solid cleaning (no chemicals or soaking).
Service Visits & Repairs
Pool acting weird? Pump making strange noises? Green water that won’t quit? I’ll come out, diagnose the problem, and fix it — or tell you honestly what needs to happen.
| Service | Starting At |
|---|---|
| Service Visit | $175 |
| Leak Detection | $250 |
Equipment Upgrades & Liner Replacement
Pump dying? Filter past its prime? Liner looking rough? I handle equipment upgrades and liner replacements too. Every situation is different — pool size, equipment condition, access issues — so call or text for a quote. I’ll shoot you straight on what makes sense and what doesn’t.

Weekly Maintenance
I’m building a local route for weekly pool maintenance in 2026. If you want someone with 30 years of experience keeping your water balanced and your equipment running right — instead of the teenager with a skimmer net — let’s talk. Weekly maintenance requires a contract for a set number of weeks, and I’m being selective about who I take on. If this sounds like what you’re looking for, reach out.
New Customer? Save on Your First Service
I’m offering a $50 discount for new customers on any pool service. Use code LOYALTY50 when you book, or just mention it when you call. This is the same code my past customers get — because I treat everyone like they’ve been with me for years.

The Heart List ❤️
Here’s something I’ve been doing for a while now: I keep a “Heart List” of customers who go above and beyond. These are the folks who make my job easier and my business stronger — and I make sure they get taken care of in return.
How to get on the Heart List:
Do any ONE of these and you’re in:
- Did you know, you can leave a review on this page? (near the top)
- Be flexible with scheduling (helps me build efficient routes)
- Leave a Google review (helps other pool owners find me)
- Pay upfront for your service
- Sign up for weekly maintenance
What Heart List members get:
- Priority scheduling during busy season
- Free little extras during service calls — liner pop-outs fixed, missing O-rings replaced, hand rail locks lubed, safety cover anchors replaced
- Extra time when needed without nickel-and-diming
- Entry into raffles to win equipment (pool cleaners, etc.)
- Sometimes I’ll even leave a floaty or fix a gate — there’s always something
It’s my way of saying thanks to the people who make this work. Family-to-family — that’s how I run this business.
Free Resources
Even if you’re a DIYer who handles your own pool care, I’ve got some free tools that might help:
Pool Volume & Chemistry Calculator — Punch in your pool size and current readings, and it’ll tell you exactly how much of each chemical to add. No guessing, no wasted money on chemicals you don’t need. Try it here →
Need a New Pool?
Service is just one part of what I do. MGK Pools is also an exclusive Aquasport dealer — I sell and install above ground, semi-inground, and fiberglass pools throughout Massachusetts and beyond. If your current pool is on its last legs, or you’re thinking about finally getting one, let’s talk.
